The state of Rio de Janeiro has an area of 43696.054 km ² (slightly larger than Denmark). One of the smaller states of Brazil.

The state of Rio de Janeiro has a population greater than 15383407 people, but mostly descendants formed by Africans, Portugueses and Indians.

Its capital is the city of Rio de Janeiro. The natural of the state of Rio de Janeiro are called "Fluminenses"(from Latin flūmen, literally "river" - "Rio" in portuguese).

The state of Rio de Janeiro has significant part Brazilian Atlantic forest, a relief composed of mountains and downloaded, in addition to 635 km of beautiful beaches (only the states of Bahia and Maranhão have greater extension of beaches). A unique combination, which creates the beautiful landscapes of Rio de Janeiro.
