The city of Rio de Janeiro is the second largest city of Brazil (the bigger is the city of São Paulo). It has an area of 1,182 km ² and a population of more than 6 million of people.

Internationally known for its famous tourist attractions such as the beaches of Copacabana, Ipanema, Barra da Tijuca, Leblon; The statue of Christ the Redeemer (one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World); The beautiful Carnival; The "Pão de açúcar" (means: bread of sugar); The Football Stadium the Maracanã; the New Year's Eve on the beach of Copacabana (one of the largest and most beautiful in the world).

The city of Rio de Janeiro is the most visited place in Brazil by non Brazilian tourists (according to data from the EMTURSA). So is a city with all necessary structure to receives the tourists.

The city of Rio de Janeiro has a rich history, various historical monuments, many illustrious people and beautiful beaches.

As to the safety or problems of violence in Rio de Janeiro, there are rather serious problems related to drug trafficking, but are perfectly avoidable if you travel through a good travel agency that certainly shall take all steps possible so you can know the real marvel is that the Rio de Janeiro.
